Senior Wednesday – Frank Lloyd Wright in Wichita

Senior Wednesdays are informational and entertaining sessions, designed for active seniors and offered by a collaboration of local institutions. Learn more at Seniorwednesday.org

Wichita-Sedgwick County Historical Museum offers their Senior Wednesdays on the 4th Wednesday of each month, January-October.

JUNE’S TOPIC: Frank Lloyd Wright in Wichita

Presented by Nancy Davis

Wichita is fortunate to be home to two Frank Lloyd Wright (FLW)-designed buildings: Allen House in College Hill and the Corbin Education Center on the campus of Wichita State University. There are other Wichita structures with either direct links to FLW or that were inspired by his designs. We’ll discuss why Mr. Wright came to design in Wichita and how he influenced local architecture.

About the Presenter

Nancy Davis, PhD, has volunteered at four Frank Lloyd Wright sites and has visited 14 more in 11 states. She became fascinated with FLW designs while visiting Fallingwater in western Pennsylvania in 2007.  Dr. Davis has been a volunteer docent at FLW’s Allen House for over 10 years and serves as the docent trainer there. She leads Friends of Corbin, a grassroots group dedicated to preserving the Corbin Education Center at WSU. She is a member of the Frank Lloyd Wright Building Conservancy and the National Trust for Historic Preservation.

As a clinician and PhD-educator (not an architect), Dr. Davis spent her career in medical education as faculty, education developer, researcher, and administrator at state and national level organizations. She retired from her position as Associate Dean, Faculty Development at KU School of Medicine in 2020.
