The Museum provides guided tours for all school groups!  School Tours have been carefully designed to follow the Kansas Curricular Standards.  Bus funding is available.

 

 

 

Are you an educator for a public school in Sumner County? Contact us about a wonderful opportunity through the Kansas All-Star Scholars Fund to visit both Wichita-Sedgwick County Historical Museum AND Old Cowtown Museum for free!

(Grades 3-12) Investigate the lives of Wichitans from the past. How were things different? You might be surprised how similar life today is. This tour can be a general Wichita life tour or focus on transportation, music, clothing, and more. Government

(Grades 9-12) Explore the role of the government in the early days of the city of Wichita. How did they get the rights to build a city? Who was involved in its governance? Who was excluded? A Child’s World

(Grades 1-2) Explore an exhibition of toys, clothing and activities from our past. Compare and contrast these to what we experience today. This tour include hands on games and activities.

Life in the Victorian Era

(Grades 3-8) Explore our Wichita Cottage and learn about the popular culture, customs, etiquette, and technology of the late-1800s in Wichita. This tour has an optional craft-making component. What Makes a City?

(Grades 6-12) What makes a city? The land, the people, the businesses, the attractions? Step back in time to explore what it takes to create a city and make it thrive. Discover how Wichita went from a frontier town to one of the fastest-growing cities in the United States. Wichita the Magic City

(Grades 3-5) Discover the story of Wichita’s early days of rapid growth and lofty goals including the construction of the City Hall building where the Museum resides today. Explore how people hoped to live and what they wanted to achieve. This tour focuses on the exhibition of the same name, and the immersive exhibits “the Wichita Cottage” and the “Mayor’s Office.” History Standard: Societies experience continuity and change over time English Standard: Speaking & Listening, Reading: Informational
